Sitting in the garden on my fishing chair early this morning, my breath ballooned out in front of me as it met the winter air. A quick peak towards the skies, however, showed virtually zero cloud cover! Time to get the bike out! At 0930 every Sunday, a dedicated group of island based riders meet in the Halfords car park in Newport. At 10am sharp they depart for an hour’s ride around the island, culminating in a full English breakfast at one of the many seaside cafes the Isle of Wight has to offer. Despite having moved to the island over six years ago, I’d yet to participate in this particular ride-out so I thought it high time I did!

Around 40 bikes and riders greeted me as I entered the car park and after exchanging the usual biker pleasantries we headed off, weaving our way along single track roads that branched out through the island’s farm lands. A quick smoke break in Ventnor (pic above) gave me chance for a longer chat with a few members and a brief look at a Ducati MultiStrada V4. Cigarettes now extinguished, we mounted up again and headed for Ryde. All in all, a very enjoyable morning and one that I’ll make a point of joining on a far more regular basis!
