This morning I received some incredibly sad new. Ray “Ride4Life” yesterday lost his battle with cancer and rode from this world to the next. I’d chatted to Ray over the last few weeks by telephone and text and I’d planned to go down to see him at the end of the summer. Sadly, our meeting will not happen in this life. Ray was an avid motorcycle adventurer and loved his Tenere 700. He contributed greatly […]

NOW ILLUMINATED! PELICASE TOP BOX WITH INTEGRATED FUEL/WATER CARRYING SYSTEM – TENERE 700
Many people doubted this project but I’ve built many systems like this for overland travel on a bike over the last 35 years and they’ve all worked beautifully. The only thing missing (and this is something I’d not done before) was illumination. I often pull into a campsite quite late and by the time I’ve setup camp it’s either dark or getting dark. I have the REDVERZ ATACAMA 2 EXPEDITION MOTORCYCLE TENT and, as such, the […]

We all use our beloved bikes for different purposes. Many purchase a Tenere 700 for hard off-road riding, some for trail riding and others for their daily commute. Mine does a bit of everything but I mostly use it for touring. Some might choose other bikes for long distance hauls but I love the stance and handling of the T700 and it suits me just fine. One thing I’ve wanted to do for a while […]

Read MoreUPCOMING REVIEW – DIY CARRIER FOR 2 X 5L FUEL CANS – MODIFYING A PELI CASE TOP BOX
Following on from the conversion of a Peli case to a low profile top box, I’m now in need of some brackets to fit 2 x 5L plastic jerry cans to the bike. After a lot of head scratching, drawing and measuring, I’ve concluded the best (read: only) place I can safely mount these is either side of the Peli case, but it will take some fortification of the side walls and some custom bracketry. […]

Read MorePICTORIAL REVIEW/FIRST IMPRESSIONS – PREPARING FOR EUROPE – OPTIMUS POLARIS OPTIFUEL STOVE
When looking at stoves for the upcoming trip into Europe, I came across the Optimus Polaris OptiFuel Stove. Whilst attempting to research and compare it to the Primus OmniFuel II, which is a popular choice on several motorcycle camping social media groups, I found very little useful information and generally the same (poor) stock photos. As such, I’ve spent some time photographing this one properly, in the hope others will find this pictorial review useful. […]
Read MoreUPCOMING REVIEW – PREPARING FOR EUROPE – OPTIMUS POLARIS OPTIFUEL STOVE + POLARDAWG CAP
09/03/2023 First impressions review now posted. This was a very tough decision! On most of the forums and social media groups I’m a member of, the Primus OmniFuel II is the stove of choice. I do like to do my own research, however, and the ability to use multiple fuels, without the need to change nozzles, swayed this in favour of the OptiFuel. Both the Omnifuel II and the OptiFuel will take pretty much any […]
Read MoreUPCOMING REVIEW – SEA TO SUMMIT ETHER LIGHT XT EXTREME WIDE MAT + AEROS PREMIUM PILLOW
Back to preparing for Europe, I realised I’d previously been a tad cautious with my sleeping arrangements. A cheap, thin ground mat has sufficed for several decades now and a pillow always consisted of a rolled up jumper or jacket, normally leaving me with a button or zip pattern emblazoned across my face in the morning. Now, at 55 years young, the time has maybe come to be a little kinder to my creaking bones […]
