The Yamaha Tenere 700 is a wonderful bike for a plethora of reasons but it’s not without its faults. The stock seat is rock hard, the suspension needs work and the rear brake is in need of help, to mention but a few. In this review we’re looking to address the latter mentioned fault, so what exactly is wrong with the rear brake? Well, it’s soft (many describe it as “mushy”) and unresponsive. Why? To […]

UPCOMING REVIEW – CAMEL ADV “THE FIX” REAR BRAKE PEDAL FOR TENERE 700/WORLD RAID
If you own a Yamaha T700 and have any interaction with other T700 riders you’ll have heard the loud complaints about the soft rear brake. At the moment my personal T700 is used more on road than off it but coming from a dirt-bike background I’ve always used the rear brake extensively, on-road and off. The “problem” (at least for some of us) is the distance the rear pedal needs to travel before fully engaging […]
Read MoreTHE OVERLAND RIDER “MOTSTAND” – PREVENTING A LOWERED BIKE FROM LEANING TO THE RIGHT
In Swedish “motstånd” translates as “resistance” or “opposition”. And that’s exactly what this little detachable stand does. It attaches to the bash plate on the right side of the bike and prevents it from leaning in that direction. But why do I need one? Well, the OverlandRider T700 is lowered 40mm. I’ve fitted a shorty kickstand but there are some places where the surface camber still leaves the bike a tad too upright for my […]

A good friend of mine (the Mikester) got himself a new bike, replacing a 1300 FJR with a Triumph Street Triple, now affectionately known as “Kermit”. So Saturday there was nothing to do but meet up for a ride! East Cowes to Newport, Bembridge, Brading, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Blackgang Chine, Military Road to Freshwater and back across the middle road to Newport and back to East Cowes. That’s a route we’ve often ridden and it […]
Read MoreFULL REVIEW – T-REX RACING ADJUSTABLE SIDE/KICK STAND FOR TENERE 700 – DOES IT WORK?
The Yamaha Tenere 700 is a tall bike with a seat height of a whole 875mm (34.44 inches). As a result, if you’re under 6 foot tall or with an inside leg under 34 inches it’s likely that you’re not going to be flat footed with both feet and for most that won’t feel comfortable or safe. Manoeuvring the bike whilst sat on it will be all but impossible and when the bike begins to […]
Read MoreUPCOMING REVIEW – T-REX RACING ADJUSTABLE SIDE/KICK STAND FOR T700
After lowering the Overland Rider T700 by a whole 40mm, the OEM side stand simply doesn’t support the bike correctly. The OEM stand, as you probably remember, was replaced with a Rally Raid stand but unfortunately that stand was not sufficiently short to deal with 40mm lowering links so I’m excited to be soon receiving the T-Rex Racing Adjustable Side Stand, which I’m fairly sure will solve this problem. The RR stand is 30mm (1.18 […]

Read MoreREPLACING FEEBLE ADV SPEC CRASH BAR SLIDER BLOCKS – PATIENCE IS REQUIRED!
I recently took another look at the crash bar sliders that came with the Adventure Spec crash bars for my T700. Have to say they’re not great! Very thin plastic and nasty little screws, they filled me with zero confidence so I decided to replace them. After some hunting I decided on this set of four from Amazon and on arrival they looked very decent compared with the AS tat. They also felt considerably heavier […]
Read MorePELI-CASE (TYPE) PERMANENT INSTALL AS A LOW PROFILE TOP BOX – WORKS FOR ME!
A plethora of riders have done this before so give me zero credit for this modification. In fact, a member of a forum I’m part of posted something very similar just a few days ago and that post inspired me to do this. A few years ago I purchased 3 MAX PELI style cases and they were and are brilliant. I’ve owned a few actual PELI cases and these MAX cases are just as good at […]
Read MoreTRYING TO ELIMINATE YAMAHA TENERE 700 BRAKE DISC RUST – THIS MIGHT WORK
I’ve not seen this in the previous 7 months of ownership but suddenly my T700 brake discs are beginning to suffer from rust. They are rarely subjected to wet riding but occasionally we’ll head out in the rain. I do live about 100 metres from the sea and that could contribute to the problem but this surface rust has only now appeared, just as we head into the dry(er) season. Go figure. Either way I’m […]
